6 Steps to Achieve Greener, Healthier Grass

The Neighbor’s Grass Isn’t Always Greener: How to Get a Thicker, Healthier Lawn

Being a homeowner comes with responsibilities. While it’s a blessing to own a house, maintaining a beautiful and healthy lawn is part of the package. It’s often a cliché to say the neighbor’s grass is greener, but there’s some truth—and a bit of envy—behind it. If you want to give your lawn a better look, we have some tips to help you achieve that:

  1. Weed Control Remove weeds and other debris. The best method is to grab them by the base and pull them out from the root to prevent them from coming back easily. When possible, we prefer manual weed removal over using chemicals like Fiesta, which are environmentally friendly but still chemicals.
  2. Mowing Mow your grass regularly. Keeping your lawn at a uniform height allows nutrients to penetrate the soil evenly and promotes the growth of new grass. Think of it as giving your lawn a regular haircut to keep it healthy and neat.
  3. Aerating Aeration is a crucial but often overlooked step in lawn care. Lawns become dry and less vibrant because the soil gets compacted. Aeration involves creating holes in the soil to allow water, air, and nutrients to reach deep into the ground, improving root development.
  4. Overseeding If you haven’t heard of overseeding, it’s time to get acquainted. This process involves adding grass seed to your existing lawn to fill in bare spots, improve density, and enhance color. We recommend using high-quality nutrients, such as Scotts, for the best results. Although you won’t see an overnight difference, overseeding once or twice a year (preferably in the fall and spring) will make your grass healthier and thicker over time.
  5. Watering Watering is essential for your grass to thrive. Ensure your lawn gets enough water—generally, 2-3 cm per week from rain or watering. This typically means watering your lawn twice a week, and during hot, sunny periods, three times a week may be necessary.
  6. Sod Installation When Needed Old, neglected grass might need a complete replacement. Sometimes, the best solution is to start fresh with sod installation, especially if previous lawn care steps weren’t properly followed. Sod installation is a good investment for those who want an instant green, healthy lawn.

By following these steps, you’ll be well on your way to having a lawn that’s not just the envy of the neighborhood but also a lush, green space you can be proud of. Happy lawn care!
